The term Ojibwe has many different spellings, including Ojibway, Ojibwa and have also been called the Chippewa. They are known to themselves however as the Anishnaabe. The Ojibwe are one of the largest communities in the Algonquian language family. The Anishnaabe speaking peoples include the Odawa (Ottawa) and Potawatomi who, together with the Ojibwe, make the Council of three fires. 1
Works in the University of Victoria's Art collection include prints and paintings by Anishnaabe artists John E. Laford, Rick Beaver, Daphne Odjig and Norval Morrisseau.
